At J. David Jewelry we clean and inspect fine jewelry at three Tulsa showrooms, in Broken Arrow, South Tulsa and Brookside. It is free, usually done while you wait, and pieces bought elsewhere are welcome. Bring it by any time you are near, with no appointment: a proper cleaning and a look at every setting, and the ring goes home looking the way it did the day it was chosen.
You remember how it looked. The light came off it in every direction, and it was hard to look anywhere else.
It can look like that again. Lotion, soap, sunscreen and the ordinary business of a kitchen settle behind a diamond, where no cloth reaches, and the light that should pass through and come back is stopped at the door. The diamond has not changed at all. It is only wearing its days.
Two things happen when you hand us a piece, and the order matters.
First, the look. Every setting, every diamond, the clasp, the foundation of the ring, under the loupe. A thorough cleaning can loosen what was barely holding, so we find it before the cleaning does. If a setting has worn or a gem has started to move, we show you, and you decide what happens next.
Then the cleaning, chosen for the piece in front of us.
A diamond in a sound setting is at home in an ultrasonic cleaner and under steam. Many other gems are not. Pearls, opals, turquoise, coral, amber and tanzanite should never go near either one, and neither should many emeralds, or any gem that has been filled or coated. Those are cleaned by hand, gently, with nothing harsher than a soft cloth and mild soap.
This is why we ask what a gem is, and look, before anything goes into a machine. It is also why a home ultrasonic deserves more caution than its box suggests.
The Gemological Institute of America suggests having jewelry checked about every six months, and we would say the same for anything worn daily. Come sooner if a piece has taken a knock, if it looks dull, or if something simply feels different on your hand.
Between visits, a diamond set in gold or platinum does well with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush. Pearls and the softer gems want only a soft cloth.
There are two ways to start, and neither is the wrong one. Bring the piece to any of our three Tulsa showrooms and we look at every setting before we clean it — that is the solid answer, because the piece is in hand. Or text us a question about caring for it, and we’ll do our best to answer from what you tell us.
There is no appointment to make, and nothing to pay. Bring it by whenever you are near one of our three showrooms. It is usually done while you wait, and it does not matter where the piece was bought. It is the smallest errand we know of that ends with someone smiling at their own hand.
If we find a setting that needs attention, that is setting repair. See also the Lifetime Care Plan.
About every six months for a piece worn daily, which is what the Gemological Institute of America recommends. Come sooner if the piece looks dull, has taken a knock, or a gem seems to move.
Nothing. Cleaning and inspection are free, and usually done while you wait.
Yes, absolutely. It does not matter where a piece was bought. Bring it to any of our three showrooms.
No. Walk into any of our three showrooms while we are open, Tuesday through Friday 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM.
Because a thorough cleaning can loosen a gem that was barely held, and we would rather find a worn setting at the counter than have you find it later. The look comes first, then the cleaning.
No. Pearls, opals, turquoise, coral, amber, tanzanite and many emeralds should never go in one, and neither should any gem that has been filled or coated. Those pieces are cleaned gently by hand.
For a diamond set in gold or platinum, warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, then a rinse and a soft cloth. For pearls and softer gems, a soft dry cloth and nothing more.
Three showrooms across Tulsa, one family since 1994. Bring your questions, or just come and look.

Every heirloom begins with a story. Hear from the families who let us be a part of theirs.
Katelyn helped me resize and refresh my wedding ring. She was knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly sweet. She made the experience easy and enjoyable, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I highly recommend asking for Katelyn
Had a fantastic experience at J David! Bought an engagement ring last year and a wedding band this year. Maelei and Susan were especially super helpful and patient with us and found us the perfect matches!
One big request I had for Hayley was to make sure any leftover gold from the ring was returned to me. Not only did she make sure I got the gold, but Scott even turned it into a small pendant!
